The Academy is an Institution of Higher Artistic Education that is part of the Ministry of University and Research of the Italian State and has the authority to grant academic degrees at the Bachelor's, Master's, and PhD levels. Its educational programs are structured into different fields of study, including the Department of Visual Arts, which encompasses Illustration and the Language of Comics, Print Art and Illustration, Painting for Art Publishing, and Painting & Sculpture, as well as the Department of Design and Applied Arts, which includes Brand Design, Character Design and Gaming, Cinema and Audiovisual, Fashion Design, Graphic Design, Photography, Video, and Social Media for the Arts, Product Design, and Scenography.
Founded in the spring of 1573, the Academy of Fine Arts "Pietro Vannucci" is the second oldest art academy in Italy and one of the oldest Higher Institutes of Artistic Education in Europe. Its historical significance is highlighted by the many influential figures who have contributed to its legacy over the centuries. Located in the former convent of San Francesco al Prato in Perugia, the Academy safeguards a historical and artistic heritage of inestimable value, including a library, a gypsotheque, a cabinet of drawings, and a gallery of paintings.
